Historical monuments of Alanya

Alanya is a walled city and a towering city. A relatively small resort town boasts several forts at once, perfectly preserved to this day.

Kyzyl-Kule (KızIlkule)

The Red Tower or Kyzyl-Kule is one of the resort's main attractions. It was built in the XIII century by the Seljuk ruler Aladdin Keykubat with a defensive purpose. At the siege, up to two thousand people could hide in Kyzyl-Kul.

The length of the fortress is about 8 km, and its height reaches the level of a standard five-story building. 85 steps lead to the top of the fort, where the observation platform is located.

Thanks to conscientious construction, the Red Tower is still in excellent condition.

Alanya Fortress (Alanya Kalesi)

One of the main cultural and historical monuments of Alanya is the fortress, which has been perfectly preserved to this day. The total length of the walls of the fortress reaches 8 km. A distinctive feature of Alanya Kalesi is the many additional premises on the inner territory of the fort, such as:

  • small mosque and monastery;
  • own mint;
  • a building for living and training soldiers;
  • bath;
  • ruler's winter quarters.

Maiden Tower (Kizkalesi)

Kizkalesi, or the Maiden's Fortress, is a structure on a small artificial island off the coast of Alanya, with numerous views of one of the living legends. Here, according to legend, lived the daughter of a nobleman, whom the oracle predicted death from a viper. But fate overtook the beauty even on a stone island without a single living creature - the guards did not finish watching, and the snake hid in a fruit basket.

The Maiden Tower looks especially impressive in the evenings because of the illumination.

Shipyard Tersane (Shipyard Alanya)

The shipyard of Alanya has significant dimensions and several halls separated by columns. Today, Tersane still fulfills its primary function and is a stopping place for small ships. The shipyard is adjacent to its mosque, well, and other premises.

Archaeological Museum (Alanya Arkeoloji Müzesi)

The Museum of Archeology of Alanya was opened in the middle of the last century. Since then, it has been replenished annually with new exhibits since excavations are constantly ongoing in Turkey.

The collection of artifacts is presented in 14 rooms and consists of specimens that belong to the ancient, Byzantine, and Ottoman eras.

Damlatash

A small two-level gorge with one hall is equipped with unique benches and lighting so that guests can rest in the damp coolness.

According to legend, two embracing skeletons of a man and a woman were once found here.

Dim

Since the middle of the last century, a small gorge near the Dim Chay River has been open to guests. The total length of the halls reaches 360 meters. It is excellent in the valley - the temperature rarely exceeds +18ºС.

Alanya beaches

The real treasure of Alanya is considered to be its beaches:

  • Popular Damlatash. The coast is covered with a mixture of sand and pebbles and has the most developed infrastructure in comparison with other beaches;
  • sandy Keykubat in the Oba region. The gently sloping bottom and plenty of water activities are ideal for families;
  • Picturesque Cleopatra beach, surrounded by pine forests. All the necessary tourist infrastructure is also present here;

There are romantic Ulash or Ermigan with many picnic spots.

Religious sights of Alanya

Several mosques in Alanya, but only Suleymaniye, is of historical and cultural value.

Suleymaniye Mosque (Süleymaniye Camii)

Built the Alanya version of Suleymaniye was in the 16th century. It is famous for its original architectural solutions:

  • a combination of stone walls with wooden windows and doors;
  • 15 balls under the dome of the building to create ideal acoustic waves;
  • several buildings in the same style on the territory of the mosque, acting as a school and a palace.
