Wanting to spend meaningful winter holidays and weekends, more and more Ukrainians and Russians come to nearby Georgia, whose magnificent landscapes, together with open and hospitable people, are the best way to contribute to a pleasant pastime and a good rest. That is why this article is devoted to where to go in Georgia in winter? We will also consider the cost of living, the pricing policy of resorts and other tourist services, the peculiarities of the local weather in the winter, and, of course, we will give a list of those attractions that every real tourist should visit.

How to get to Georgia in winter?

Since the "land of eternal spring," as this country is also called, is actively developing the tourism sector, there are many options to visit it. For those who decide to have a winter vacation in Georgia, the easiest and fastest option is to fly to one of the three major airports in Batumi, Kutaisi, and Tbilisi. The cost of a flight from Ukraine to Georgia ranges from €80 to €180. For Russians, there are more options for crossing the Georgian border. Either direct flights by plane, the price of which can reach up to €160, or land routes, for example, by rail. The train will cost about €93 round trip. You can also get from Russia to Georgia with transfers. The cost of a ticket for a fixed-route taxi from Vladikavkaz to Tbilisi will be approximately €21 per person.

A pleasant nuance for those who want to visit Georgia in winter is the absence of a visa regime for citizens of the CIS, which allows you to enjoy the beauties and hospitality, having only one foreign passport with you.

The main thing is not to plan your route through Abkhazia or South Ossetia; otherwise, upon arrival at the final destination, extending the winter vacation for an indefinite period is a risk because there are extremely tense relations between them and Georgia. Any person who arrives from this direction ceases to be a welcome guest.

The most famous are the resorts of Bakuriani and Gudauri. For adults and children, the daily subscription is 30 GEL and 20 GEL, respectively. The cost of rooms in nearby hotels ranges from 250 lari (77.€5) to 400 lari (€125) per day.

Sulfur baths in Tbilisi

In the next stage of the excursion in winter, Georgia can safely visit the sulfur baths in Tbilisi, the healing waters of which are purified by the very nature of underground sources. Ordering a separate room will cost 30 GEL (€9) to 150 GEL (€47). Entrance to the shared bath - 3 GEL (slightly less than €1). The list of their services also includes a relaxing or therapeutic massage.

It is worth visiting the catering establishments on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi, replenishing your energy reserves with plentiful portions of all kinds of local dishes for inveterate gourmets. A hearty lunch will take about 10-15 GEL (3-4.€5), while a light street snack rarely costs over 1.5-2 GEL (about 0. €5). Remember, on a full stomach; it will be much better to relax in Georgia in winter, as there will be more strength for a meaningful pastime.

Having refreshed, it is worth continuing your route to the famous Georgian resort town of Borjomi, in the country's southeast. The healing properties of the local mineral waters were highly valued in all the republics of the former USSR and even far beyond its borders. The entrance fee for Borjomi Park is 2 GEL (about 0.€5). For this amount, you will drink an unlimited amount of their mineral water and take a few bottles home.

The culture of Georgia is closely connected with practically the national drink - wine. It is not surprising because there are no fewer vineyards here than in France. So you can warm up while relaxing in the winter in Georgia with the help of this noble drink. The most famous winery in the country is Chateau Mukhrani. You can order a tasting tour, which will cost about 30 GEL (€9) per person. If the use of wine is complemented by dinner, the amount will double.

And since you will already be near Mtskheta, visit this ancient town, the heart of which is the cathedral, built back in the 11th century AD. There are also monasteries, temples, an ancient fortress, and the settlement of Armazi, the observation deck of which allows you to explore all the local beauties freely.

The next point of a winter excursion in Georgia can be safely put in the Kumistavi karst cave, or as it is also called the Prometheus cave, which can reach from Kutaisi. Guests are invited to visit 15 tourist areas, with a total length of over one kilometer. From this territory, you can see Mount Khvamli, where, according to legend, Prometheus himself was chained punished by the ancient Greek gods. Also, near to this place, there are other caves where you can even find traces of dinosaurs.

An equally exciting sight of Georgia is the ancient cave city-monastery Vardzia, founded in the 12th century. There are hundreds of unique objects in its territory, including baths, temples, refectories, etc. And since there are not so many visitors here in winter, you can enjoy the architectural compositions to your heart's content, feeling like a real adventurer.

The average cost of visiting museums and historical complexes in Georgia is about 6-15 GEL (2-4.€5). Excursions will be delayed from 25 to 50 lari (8-€15).

The weather in Georgia in winter is quite favorable for tourists. The average temperature rarely drops below +2°C during the day and can reach zero at night. But, it is best to take warm clothes with you, because rains and wind at such a temperature can still cause some inconvenience. However, they are more than offset by various options for a pleasant and entertaining holiday.

We recommend spending the winter holidays in Georgia. Although a neighboring but exciting and diverse country, where gray-haired traditions are elegantly combined with dynamic modernity. Georgia pleases visitors with an endless number of leisure options for every taste, people with various tastes and preferences.
