Italy, like a magnet, attracts thousands of immigrants every year from all over the world. The stable economic situation in the country, the highest standard of living, minimal risks for investments, relatively low taxes, acceptable earnings for visitors, free high-quality medical care, a relatively easy-to-learn language, combined with a mild climate and rich cultural heritage make this country one of the most popular directions for immigration. Its primary stage is getting a residence permit in Italy (Italian permesso di soggiorno) - a document that allows you to stay in it legally. It can be of three types: with the right to work, the right to receive education and a part-time job, and without these rights. The latter option is suitable, for example, for those wishing to purchase local real estate. Interestingly, the Italian government deliberately stimulates labor and business immigration, contributing to the development of its country's economy.

Reasons for obtaining or extending a residence permit in Italy

It is recommended to apply for a residence permit in case of a planned stay for over three months. The basis for its issuance is a category "D" visa. As mentioned earlier, there are several types of residence permits, significantly expanding the list of opportunities for obtaining a residence permit in Italy:

  • Conducting private business in the territory of this country;
  • Employment with a local employer;
  • Seasonal hired labor;
  • religious mission;
  • Representation of a foreign public organization;
  • Tourist visits;
  • Scientific and technical cooperation
  • Getting an education in local educational institutions
  • Professional internship or courses;
  • Waiting for employment;
  • Family grounds;
  • Guest invitations;
  • Adoption;
  • Waiting for Italian citizenship;
  • Political asylum because of repression in their country.

What is very important, a residence permit in Italy does not require knowledge of the Italian language, significantly simplifying the mechanism for obtaining it.

Depending on the reason for the move, the validity period of the issued document is determined:

  • From six months to nine months - for people who came for seasonal work;
  • Up to a year - for study;
  • Up to two years - for business representatives, long-term employment, or family reunification.
  • To extend the Italian residence permit, one or more of the reasons listed above must be present in case of expiration.

Varieties of residence permits in Italy

Depending on your stay, a variety of permits can be issued, which we will consider below.

A residence permit with the right to work (Italian: permesso di soggiorno per lavore) - implies, for its receipt, an application from a potential boss who volunteered to employ an immigrant.

A residence permit to open your own business (Italian: permesso di soggiorno per lavoro autonomo/indipendente) requires proof that you have the capital to run a business. On average, we are talking about 10 thousand € and more.

By the way, bilateral agreements have been concluded between Italy and Ukraine, and Russia, allowing their citizens to engage in entrepreneurial activities in the territory of this country, with the prospect of further getting permanent residence in Italy.

There are no special requirements for doing business for immigrants. There are general rules on the number of employees; hiring a director, secretary, or accountant is unnecessary. There are also no special requirements for annual turnover. The most important thing is to pay taxes on time and honestly.

Residence permit with the right to receive education (Italian: permesso di soggiorno per studio) - for admission to an educational institution. This document also makes it possible to work in Italy, but not over twenty hours a week, so that this does not reflect on the quality of the study.

Residence permit without the right to work and study (Italian: permesso di soggiorno per dimora/Residenza elettiva) - most often issued to persons who own local real estate if they have the funds to live in Italy. We are talking about an account in an Italian bank of at least 50-70 thousand €.

Foreigners choose to purchase real estate in such regions of Italy as Liguria, Tuscany, Calabria. Still, there are many reasonable offers for the sale of housing in Lazio, Molise, and many others. Etc. The average cost in Italy ranges from 1.2-3.€4 / sq. m. meter. But there are many offers of small cozy studios costing about 35-40 thousand €. One of the most budgetary is Calabria, where you can find housing for approximately €1176 / sq. m. meter.

A residence permit for family reunification (Italian: permesso di soggiorno per ricongiungimento familiar) - can be got if there are documents confirming the applicant's relationship with an Italian citizen.

How to apply for a residence permit in Italy

To issue the desired document, you must first fill out a special "envelope," which can be sent via mail.

The cost of the request varies depending on the duration of the residence permit. So, if we are talking about 3-12 months, the service will cost €80; if the period from 1 to 2 years is considered, pay €100. When preparing documents with the prospect of permanent residence, this will already drag out €200.

Further, it will be necessary to reimburse the cost of the plastic certificate - 30.€46. For a revenue stamp, pay another €16. Postal services themselves will cost €30.

It should be understood that there is a list of documents for each type of residence permit that must be attached to the request.

For example, for family reunification, you will need

  • a request for family reunification at the Bureau of Immigration;
  • Photocopy and original of the passport;
  • Photocopy of passports of relatives with whom family reunification takes place;
  • Information about marital status;
  • Documents confirming the availability of housing
  • Annual income not below a certain level established by Italian law;
  • You may also need legalized marriage and birth certificates.

There is a complicated administrative procedure in Italy for receiving any certificates and documents, but if you already have them, you will have the most profitable job and business opportunities in one of the most democratic and prosperous countries on Earth.
