Göcek

Göcek is a small Turkish town in the Fethiye region, between the cities of Fethiye and Dalaman. The town's population is about 4.5 thousand people, in the summer it increases to 7 thousand. Currently, 2/3 of the population is foreigners. The British claim Göcek is "warm England," but not Turkey.

Gocek or Göcek?

Göcek - that's how it is correct to call him in Russian. Since the Turkish letter "c" in the Turkish alphabet has the sound "j" and, the Turkish name Gocek reads as Göcek.

About Göcek

Göcek is an international yachting center. Today the city has six marinas: D-Marin Göcek, Club Marina, Marinturk Gocek Village, Port Municipality Marinas, Marinturk Göcek Exclusive, and Skopea Marina. The most crucial feature of Göcek is its location - in a small bay, where several harbors and bays are protected from the winds. Göcek's piers are home to thousands of small sailboats, large yachts, charter boats, and fishing boats. There are advertisements for goods and services for people living on the water: "We will refuel your yacht," "We will deliver groceries onboard." You can visit 12 islands thanks to water transport.

Since 1988, the city has had a special law protecting against the construction of multi-story buildings. All buildings here are one- or two-story. Gocek has many villas, hotels and boarding houses, fashionable boutiques and simple shops, expensive restaurants, and ordinary cafes. But Göcek is famous, not for this, but for the yachts that enter the marinas - this is their actual exhibition. You can wander around the marinas and look at the ships - shapes, colors, equipment, and sizes are not repeated.

Can walk around the promenade along the sea in about twenty minutes. To get to Göcek beach, you need to go to the territory of Di Marina. At the entrance, there is a barrier and a security booth. But instead of the expected "Stop, who's coming?" The guard will say: "Good morning! Welcome to our marina," and even tell a little about what and how it works here, where the cafe is, where the beach is, where the toilet is. The color of the sea here is alluring, and the water is much warmer than in Marmaris.

Inline Beach is on the outskirts of Göcek and can be reached in 10 minutes by car; it is under government control. Sarigerme Beach is a long sandy beach and can be easily reached by car or taxi. Further down from Sarigerme is Iztuzu Beach in the Dalyan Delta, and if you move in the other direction, you will get to the beach in Oludeniz in about 40 minutes.

How to get to Göcek?

The nearest airport from Göcek is in the neighboring city of Dalaman, located 25 km away. You can book a shared transfer or a private taxi, but this will incur additional costs.

Location of Göcek

Göcek is between the cities of Dalaman and Fethiye on the Aegean coast of Turkey in the province of Muğla: the distance from Dalaman Airport is 18 km and 37 km from Fethiye. With the completion of the Fethiye-Gocek tunnel in 2006, the city became much more accessible; the tunnel was the first in the region.

There are no historical ruins in the city; all sights come down to two words - sea and yachts. The climate of Göcek is reminiscent of southern Greece, with the holiday season beginning in April and ending in October. The average winter temperature in Göcek is 14°C. During the summer, temperatures reach around 38°C, and the sun shines for over 300 days a year. The maximum temperature can reach 40°C. Because of the favorable temperatures, Göcek's climate is perfect for growing exotic fruits such as tangerines, lemons, and oranges.

Quality of life in Göcek

On the north side, the city is surrounded by the Taurus Mountains and pine forests. It has its bay; a unique natural environment has formed here. You can buy a holiday house or settle down in Gocek. It's a lovely, untouched city where buying real estate or owning land is the most excellent investment in Turkey's Mediterranean region.

Must visit

As with all resort towns, Göcek has many things to include on your must-do list:

1. Boat trip to the islands: an excellent opportunity to relax, sunbathe and see stunning landscapes.
2. Visit the city of Fethiye, which is a short bus ride away: this is a lively place where a museum, a castle, rock tombs, and an old theater are located. Stroll around the old town, down the pretty streets lined with traditional souvenir shops.
3. Visit the city of Dalyan, which will take about 45 minutes after you have explored the city, and head to the ancient ruins of Kaunos. Close by is the beautiful sunbathing sont of Izu Beach.
